BWE, a national commercial and multifamily mortgage banking company, announced today the joining of two powerhouse teams in its Columbus office, creating one of the strongest mortgage banking groups in the Midwest. An experienced team of loan originators and production support staff, led by Chad Kiner and A.J. Mangan, formerly with Walker & Dunlop, has united with BWE’s Columbus team, already recognized as the largest mortgage lender in Central Ohio.
Kiner and Mangan join Senior Vice Presidents Sam Miller, Paul Smith, Andy Effler, and Conor Lee, creating a team that brings unparalleled expertise in all aspects of mortgage banking. With decades of combined experience securing financing from a variety of capital sources, including banks, life companies, agencies, and alternative forms of capital, the Columbus team is poised for continued growth in both Ohio and across the Midwest.
“A.J. and I, along with the rest of our team, are thrilled to join BWE and to work alongside the incredibly talented mortgage bankers at BWE, who we’ve long recognized as some of the best in the industry,” said Kiner. “With Columbus thriving as a growing and highly attractive place to invest, our unified team positions us as the premier solution for clients in Central Ohio. Our combined expertise will allow our office to serve clients in Central Ohio more effectively while also expanding our footprint further across the Midwest. We look forward to this new chapter at BWE.”
With more than two decades of capital markets placement experience, Kiner has been responsible for transacting over $10+ billion in commercial origination business over the course of his career. Previously a managing director in Walker & Dunlop’s Columbus office, he specializes in the origination of loans for a wide array of property types, including multifamily, retail, industrial, office, mixed-use, and hospitality. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in business with an emphasis in finance and real estate and holds a master’s in real estate from the University of Florida.
Over his career, Mangan has helped close more than $6 billion in debt and equity transactions by leveraging his expertise on acquisitions, dispositions, investment analysis, equity and JV structuring, and property valuations. Prior to joining BWE, Mangan was with MSF Real Estate Capital and Walker & Dunlop, where he provided financing solutions for a broad range of commercial properties, including multifamily, mixed-use, industrial, retail, self-storge, hospitality and office. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus in real estate and urban analysis.
“With their deep experience securing financing for every asset class, coupled with their incredible knowledge of the Midwest markets, we know this team will further strengthen BWE’s position as Ohio’s top mortgage lender,” said Todd Harrop, BWE’s national director of conventional production. “The team’s expertise, combined with their strong client relations skills, make them the ideal fit as we continue to expand our presence in Ohio and across the country.”
In addition to Kiner and Mangan, Grant Proegler and Craig Kirker have joined BWE as senior transaction managers, Brody Hoying as a transaction manager, and David Harris as a senior underwriter.
The expansion of the Columbus office represents continued growth for BWE. Despite the economic uncertainty of the past two years, the firm has achieved remarkable growth, expanding its market-rate production offices by 10 and welcoming numerous new producers nationwide. With strong momentum, the firm is poised for continued growth and further expansion in 2025.
